As part of the renovation programmes for fossil-fired generation facilities, the fossil-fired unit at La Maxe (Moselle) invested 4 million euro in the construction of a river landing jetty and coal transport vessel. Inaugurated in April 2006, they contribute toward the technical, economical and environmental performance of the power station.

The new installation allows for a significant reduction in the number of coal transport trucks using the A31 motorway and thereby reduces atmospheric, sound and visual disturbances, and the risks associated with road traffic. From now on, 80% of the coal arrives by boat, directly at the entrance of the power plant.
